"Pupils with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND) benefit from strategies developed specifically to assist them. As a result, pupils with SEND thrive at school and achieve highly" (OfSTED, February 2025)
Special Educational Needs - What we do at Sleights
At Sleights Church of England (Voluntary Controlled) Primary School, we make sure that every child makes good or better progress from their starting points. We monitor progress really carefully during our teaching and adjust what we do to help every learner.
To make sure that every child is given the right support and challenge, all teaching staff meet with the Headteacher, who also acts as the SENCO, to discuss every child in depth. This ensures that we quickly identify children who may need a bit of extra help to keep up or longer-term support to achieve their potential. This might mean extra focused help in the classroom; a short term additional 'booster' programme in a small group or individually; or more intensive support through setting up an Educational Health Care Plan. We keep parents and carers fully informed at every stage and, where longer term support is needed, they are invited to meetings every term to discuss progress and next steps.
Our SENCO (the teacher with responsibility for Special Educational Needs) is Scott Grason-Taylor.
The governor responsible for monitoring Special Educational Needs and provision is Gemma Kellerman.
On this page of our website, we publish information about how we support children at Sleights with SEND and the details of the local offer that parents and families should expect to receive from all schools in the authority.
